Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Chiefof the General Staff of the Lao Armed Forces, Major General Kham Lieng hasunderscored the need for Laos and Vietnam to establish close defencecoordination along their shared borderline.

He said the work is needed to ensure each country’s political and socialsecurity and stability as well as economic development amid amidst the rapidand complicated developments in the world and hostile forces resorting toundermine the countries’ time-honoured friendship.

The Lao officer was speaking to Chiefof the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defence Minister,Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang during their meeting in Hanoi on April 25.

Giang hailed the guest’s visit on theoccasion of the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-LaosTreaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18) and the 55th anniversaryof bilateral diplomatic ties (September 5).

He asked the two defence ministries’units to maintain close bonds to contribute to the two countries’ nationaldefence-security cause.-VNA
