Laos is conducting its 4 th Population and Housing Census nationwide, starting from March 1 through to March 7.
The census is intended to collect fundamental information on the country’s population, population structure, educational attainment, accessibility to health services, employment, unemployment, and housing conditions.
Lao Deputy Prime Minister Bounpone Bouttanavong, who is also Chairman of the National Steering Committee for the 4 th Census, urged surveyors, inspectors and other relevant bodies to work hard and overcome all difficulties for the survey success.
The results of the census will provide an important source of information to help the Government assess the outcomes of the 7 th 5-year Socio-economic Development Plan between 2011 and 2015 and the progress towards the targets set for the Millennium Development Goals in 2015.
Facts and figures found will be vital for the preparatory works for the 10 th Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party in early 2016 as well as the planning of the next 5-year Socio-economic Development Plan (2016-2020) and the nation’s development visions towards 2030.
Laos has successfully undertaken three Population and Housing Census in 1985, 1995 and 2005.-VNA
