Laos wins seventh ASEAN Regional Quiz

Vientiane (VNA) – The Lao team won the first prize of the seventh ASEAN Regional Quiz that took place in Vientiane, Laos on August 24.

The Philippines came second at the event, which was designed for senior high school students in the 10 ASEAN member countries.

The Vietnamese team included three members from Le Quy Don high school in the central city of Da Nang, who won first prizes in a similar competition in Vietnam.

According to host Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Buangeun Saphuvong, the event this year, the first version after the formation of ASEAN Community, is part of the activities in the framework of the bloc’s Culture – Society pillar.

The competition helps raise the understanding of the regional history, culture, political and economic development among the candidates, while promoting regional cultural exchange.

The competition acts a platform and is a continuing project of the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (ASEAN-COCI), which aims to foster a spirit of healthy competition amongst youths with a friendly quiz on ASEAN cultural, political, economic and social information.

It was first launched in Thailand in 2002. The biennial event has been broadcast in every ASEAN member country’s television.-VNA
