The Fifth ASEAN Regional Quizopened on August 3 in Phnom Penh, aiming to raise the awareness ofthe association and strengthen the friendship and solidarity amongpeople of its member countries.
Speaking at theopening ceremony, Cambodian Minister of Information Khieu Kanharith saidthe quiz is an opportunity for each member country to promote theirimage and enhance understanding through the exchange with the othercountries members.
The competition attracts 30 school contestants from all the 10 ASEAN member nations.
The contestants will take three test rounds in English. Each roundwill cover 20 questions on various fields such as geography, history,culture, economics, politics and ASEAN. They will also participate inseveral debates.
The Vietnamese team includes three members, who won first prizes in a similar competition in Vietnam last August./.VNA
Indonesia’s customs warns of emerging smuggling “hotspot”
To prevent similar smuggling activities, Indonesia’s Directorate General of Customs and Excise is conducting strict surveillance along the coast. The areas under surveillance include Belawan, Tanjung Balai Asahan, Dumai, Jambi, and the Riau Islands.
