National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu told the NA Standing Committee at the opening of their 24th session in Hanoi on January 13 that medical insurance should be made compulsory to cover the whole population.

High on the agenda was the Law on amendments and supplements to some articles of the Law on Medical Insurance which garnered 124 different opinions in the legislature’s recent sixth session.

Sharing the same view, head of the NA’s Committee for Finance and Budget Phung Quoc Hien suggested more support to those who once paid services to the nation, military personnel, poor and nearly-poor households.

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung called for an end to the distinction between public and private hospitals, which in his appeal, must be responsible for medical insurance holders.

The same day, they also gave their input on the draft revised Law on Marriage and Family that also came up in the first discussion of the NA’s sixth session.

They recommended the ban on same-sex marriage should be removed, adding that there should be further analysis to issue regulations in line with the current trend of development.-VNA
