Hanoi (VNA) – The 10th sitting of the 14th NationalAssembly began on October 20, with discussions held online.

Before theopening ceremony, lawmakers devoted one moment of silence to commemorateofficials and soldiers who died during search and rescue missions as well asdead victims of floods. They made donations to support flood victims inresponse to the appeal by Party General Secretary and President Nguyen PhuTrong.

The NA ChairwomanNguyen Thi Kim Ngan presented an opening speech at the opening session, whichwas broadcast live on Radio The Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Television and theNational Assembly TV channel.

In themorning, the NA heard several important reports, including one delivered byPrime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on the implementation of the socio-economicdevelopment plans for 2020 and 2016-2020, the plan for 2021, and main targetsand solutions for socio-economic development during 2021-2025.

President ofthe Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man introduced asummary of opinions and petitions submitted by voters and people to thelegislature’s 10th sitting.

Head of theNA Standing Committee’s Ombudsman Committee Duong Thanh Binh reported on theNA’s supervision of the settlement of voters’ petitions submitted to thelegislature’s 9th sitting.

In theafternoon, more reports were presented on the NA’s external activities duringthe year Vietnam chaired the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), theimplementation of the State budget in 2020 and the national financial plan for2016-2020, the budget estimates for 2021, the five-year financial plan for2021-2025, and the mid-term public investment plan for 2021-2025.

Minister of Planningand Investment Nguyen Chi Dung reported to the NA on the implementation of theNA’s resolutions on economic restructuring, mid-term public investment plan,and investment in national target programmes during 2016-2020.

On October21, the NA is scheduled to discuss online contentious issues in the draft lawon residency (revised), and the draft border guard law.

The NA’s 10thsitting is scheduled over the course of 19 days in both teleconference andin-person forms. The former convenes from October 20 – 27 while lawmakers willgather at the NA building in downtown Hanoi for plenary meetings from November2 – 17./.

So far, 597 journalists and technicians from 113 domestic media outlets, along with 79 journalists and media assistants from 43 foreign news agencies, overseas Vietnamese media, and political party publications, have registered to cover the congress, marking a significant increase compared to the 13th National Party Congress.

Final review of preparations for 14th National Party Congress

After on-site inspections and reports from relevant units on the implementation of the assigned tasks following the preliminary review on January 13 morning, Politburo member and Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Tran Cam Tu commended agencies and units for their strong sense of responsibility, close coordination, and timely completion of tasks.
