Localities hit by saline intrusion receive assistance
Saline intrusion this year in Vinh Long province has arrived a month earlier than usual and is forecast to be much more severe than in previous years. Given the situation, many organisations and individuals have assisted locals with water tanks and purifiers.
According to official statistics, over 26,000 households in Vinh Long province have been hit by saline intrusion, and have limited access to tap water. Indeed, as many anti-saline sluice gates are shut due to severe saline intrusion, water in canals is at risk of pollution, leading to a scarcity of fresh water.
Drought and saline intrusion this year are forecast to be complicated. Therefore, besides the above-mentioned assistance from charitable organisations and individuals, local governments and relevant agencies are being urged to come up with sustainable measures to cope with the situation in the long-term./.
