Fourteen Vietnamese fishermen attacked by pirates on May 15 safely returned to Sa Ky port in central Quang Ngai province with Malaysia ’s help on May 23.
Their fishing boat, coded QNg 90847 TS, left Sa Ky port in Binh Chau district on April 8, 2011, affirmed Captain Nguyen Quyet Chien from Border guard station 288 of Quang Ngai province.
The boat’s captain Nguyen Tan Luan said that on May 15, his boat was suddenly attacked by five pirates who shot and injured two of the crew on.
The pirates also took away all necessities, including three locators, one depth sounder, two walkie-talkies, six oil barrels, more than 50 million VND and all catches, worth almost 700 million VND in total, said Captain Chien.
The boat was later led by a Malaysian fishing vessel to its Kudat port and the wounded were taken for treatment. All the crew and its captain were helped by local authorities to return home, leaving Malaysia on May 17./.
