Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has blocked 27 websites and 54 URL links in the Malay and English languages that spread Islamic State (IS) ideology.

Speaking to the press on July 15, Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak said the authorities also contacted other social media platform providers to seek their cooperation in removing some accounts related to the extremism.

MCMC contacted YouTube, Twitter and Facebook to remove one Twitter account, three Facebook accounts and six YouTube channels with 20 videos, he added.

The minister said MCMC has taken proactive steps not only to identify and block access to online media outlets that spread terrorist propaganda, but to identify individuals found supporting the ideology.-VNA
