Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia’s ImmigrationDepartment has deported 23,000 illegal immigrants this year to May for criminaloffence, said its director-general Mustafar Ali.
Indonesia topped the list of deported illegalimmigrants with 6,849 people, followed by Bangladesh with 4,220 people.
The director-general listed various offencescommitted by illegal immigrants such as prostitution, black money scam, murder,robbery and kidnapping.
He stressed that Malaysia needs foreign workersbut it will not tolerate their crimes.
The Southeast Asian country currently has 13detention centres and the Immigration Department detained a total of 146,876illegal immigrants in different crackdowns conducted between 2014 and 2016. –VNA
