Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia will receive 1.5 million Bangladeshi workers in stages over the next three years under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two governments.
The MoU was signed by Malaysian Human Resources Minister Richard Riot Jaem and Bangladesh’s Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam in the Bangladeshi capital city of Dhaka on February 18.
Accordingly, workers from Bangladesh can be employed in the areas of services, manufacturing, construction, agriculture and plantation with salaries ranging up to 900 Malaysian Ringgit (213 USD) a month.
Malaysian employers will cover other expenses for workers such as travel, visa, medical check-up and insurance.
To date, there are about 600,000 Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia, of which only 10,000 are sent to the Southeast Asian country under inter-governmental agreements between the countries.-VNA
