Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur International Airport number 2 (KLIA2), theworld's largest purpose-built terminal for low-cost carriers, hasobtained the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) fromUEMC-Bina Puri JV and is scheduled to become operational from May 2.
Theissuance of the CCC not only certifies the safety of the project but isalso a go-ahead for all relevant authorities to occupy the terminalbuilding including airlines that can start operating from the new hybridairport.
According to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB)Senior General Manager Datuk Azmi Murad, MAHB conducted a mock run ofthe Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT), which is a trialto stimulate functionality and operational aspects, since earlyFebruary.
The final ORAT will take place on April 30, he added.
Meanwhile, Malaysian low-cost carrier AirAsia confirmed it will join the bandwagon and operate out of KLIA2 by May 9.
Covering a total area of 257,000 square metres, the airport has 60gates, 80 airbridges and 225 retail outlets located in an area of 32,000square metres. It can welcome 45 million passengers every year.
Construction of KLIA2, which is nearly 2 km way of the Kuala LumpurInternational Airport, commenced in 2010 with a total capital of 1.3billion USD.-VNA
