A large-scale blackout brought Ho Chi Minh City to a halt at around 2 p.m. of May 22.

The power outage caused traffic chaos, especially in such big avenues as Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Cach Mang Thang 8, Dien Bien Phu and Pasteur.

Many scheduled court trials were halted.

According to the Southern Power Corporation, the outage came as a result of a breakdown of the 500-kV grid.

Apart from HCM City, the incident also affected all southeastern region and some southwestern provinces, the corporation noted.
