At the working session between Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Ngo Duc Manh (third from right) and First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Ivan Melnikov (Source: VNA) Moscow (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Ngo Duc Manh had a working session in Moscow on March 20 with First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Ivan Melnikov to discuss issues related to the overseas Vietnamese community.
This was the first time Vietnamese citizen-related affairs had been put on table for discussion between an ambassador and a leader of Russia’s legislative body.
Along with Ambassador Manh, the Vietnamese delegation included leading officials of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Russia, its chapter in Krasnodar province, the Vietnamese Business Association in Russia and the Hanoi-Moscow Trade Centre.
At the meeting, Manh thanked Russia’s authorities for supporting the overseas Vietnamese community.
However, many people still face difficulties during the integration process, particularly in soft skills, lack of knowledge about migration and settlement procedures and impact of the host country’s socio-economic situation.
The diplomat divided the difficulties into six groups of migration, learning, tourism, production and business, labour and residence, and detailed them in writing to leaders of the State Duma, ministries and sectors involved to seek solutions to these difficulties.
Melnikov appreciated the Vietnamese side’s proposals, saying he will direct the State Duma’s relevant committees to work with Russia’s offices and the Vietnamese embassy to seek solutions.
There are currently about 50,000 Vietnamese people living and working in Russia.-VNA
