Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh chaired a meeting on August 9 in Hanoi with representatives of ministries and agencies to review preparations for the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN) slated for September 11-13.

Speaking at the event, Deputy PM Minh said the WEF ASEAN is a major and prestigious forum in the region, attracting high-ranking country leaders, international organisations and corporate executives.

He said the event will be one of the important external activities of Vietnam in 2018, contributing to raising its stature and affording ministries, agencies, localities and businesses a chance to extend cooperation with leading corporations and catch development trend in the region and the world.

The Party and State leaders pay attention to the significance of the event, he said, stressing that the WEF ASEAN needs to ensure efficiency in terms of politics, external relations, economy and culture on the back of thorough preparations for reception, security and logistics.

Deputy PM Minh asked the organising board, ministries, agencies and localities to show their highest sense of responsibility and exert the utmost efforts to ensure that the forum will be a success.

They were also urged to popularise Vietnam’s potentials, strengths and business environment on the occasion.

Themed “ASEAN 4.0: Entrepreneurship and the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, the forum will see nearly 60 sessions to discuss start-up development and address issues arising from the revolution.

About 800-1,000 delegates are expected to join the event.

The WEF was established in 1971 as a non-profit foundation and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The forum engages the foremost political, business and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.-VNA
