Hanoi (VNA) – A plenary session on building a professional, comprehensive and modern diplomatic sector was held in Hanoi on December 18, within the framework of the 31st Diplomatic Conference.
In his opening speech, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said over the past years, the diplomatic sector has synchronously and closely combined pillars together, including political, economic, cultural diplomacy, external information, overseas Vietnamese affairs and citizen protection, in order to fulfil its task of maintaining an environment of peace and stability, contributing to firmly safeguarding independence, sovereignty, territorial unity and integrity and improving the country’s stature.
Apart from traditional fields, the sector is required to actively seek new approaches to meeting national development demand such as technological, digital, environment, medical and energy diplomacy, he said.
He wished leaders of ministries and agencies would share orientations and tasks to step up cooperation and global integration in the fields of innovation, digital transformation, environment protection and health care.
Son also requested opinions at the event focus on policies and mechanisms regarding personnel recruitment, training, planning and rotation to meet demand in new situation./.
Diplomatic sector effectively serves national defence, development: Minister
The diplomatic sector has made great contributions to the cause of national defence, construction and development throughout the country’s history over the past more than seven decades, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son wrote in an article on the occasion of the ministry's 76th founding anniversary (August 28, 1945-2021).
