Can Tho (VNA)– Mekong Delta enterprises should foster connectivity and cooperation, whilestrengthening the application of high technology in production and business,said Vo Hung Dung, Director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry inCan Tho city.

Addressing aconference in Can Tho city on July 26 to seek measures for regional businessesto adapt with changes of the world economy amidst the fourth industrialrevolution, Dung noted that Mekong Delta region faces many difficulties ininfrastructure, logistics and technology.

He held that thefourth industrial revolution will benefit regional firms by reducing labourcost, increasing productivity, thus improving profit.

Sharing Dung’s opinions,Nguyen The Quang, Vice Director of the E-Commerce and IT Department under theMinistry of Industry and Trade, mentioned the “sharing economy” model, which isproving its efficiency in many countries in the world.

He cited the successof IT-based businesses such as Grab, Uber, Trip me and Ahamove, which aims toshare cost and increases profit, adding that regional firms can learn the modelfor better integration.

Huynh The Du, Directorof the Fulbright Economics Teaching Programme, noted that so far this year, theregion has had 4,275 new enterprises, up 110.5 percent over the same periodlast year, with total investment of 30.81 billion VND, a rise of 122.7 percent.

However, the number ofdissolved firms were 2,426, an increase of 114 percent year on year, he said.

He analysed that themajority of local businesses are specialised in agriculture with small andmedium scale and vulnerable to competition in capital, technology and humanresources. He highlighted the need for specific support policies suitable toeach locality to guide local firms in sustainable growth.

Du stressed thatenterprises should be updated themselves on business laws, especially financialand fiscal policies, to avoid legal violations and the missing of supportpolicies for their firms.-VNA

Domestic consumption up over 13%, tourism continues strong growth

The total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenues in August were estimated at 679.8 trillion VND (26 billion USD), up 1.6% from the previous month and 14.9% year-on-year. In the January-August period, the figure reached 5.24 quadrillion VND, representing a 13.3% increase year-on-year.

Hanoi moves to maintain appeal to FDI inflows

In the first eight months of 2026, the capital city attracted more than 3.7 billion USD in FDI, equivalent to 83% of the plan set for the year.
