Can Tho(VNA) – The 20th Francophone Day of the Mekong Delta came back toCan Tho city on March 11-12 in celebration of the International FrancophonieDay (March 20).

The event was jointly organisedby the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), the Vietnam-FranceFriendship Organisation’s chapter in Can Tho, and Can Tho University.

Addressing the event,Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Dung spoke highlyof the success of the programme to develop Francophone community in the MekongDelta through cultural and educational activities. It has contributed to theimplementation of the comprehensive cooperation between the governments ofVietnam and France, he said.

The regional FrancophoneDay was expected to attract many local residents to take part in variousactivities, including a contest of eloquence in French with the theme –Starting a business with French, a story telling contest, an exhibition ofFrench-speaking countries and a cosplay, noted Jean Philippe Rousse, attaché ofcooperation and cultural activities at the Consulate General of France in HoChi Minh City.

In addition, the event also included a workshop discussingthe role of tourism as a lever to develop the Francophone community in theMekong Delta.-VNA
