Mekong Delta Francophone Day held in Can Tho

Can Tho (VNA) – The 20th Francophone Day of the Mekong Delta came back to Can Tho city on March 11-12 in celebration of the International Francophonie Day (March 20).

The event was jointly organised by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), the Vietnam-France Friendship Organisation’s chapter in Can Tho, and Can Tho University.

Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Dung spoke highly of the success of the programme to develop Francophone community in the Mekong Delta through cultural and educational activities. It has contributed to the implementation of the comprehensive cooperation between the governments of Vietnam and France, he said.

The regional Francophone Day was expected to attract many local residents to take part in various activities, including a contest of eloquence in French with the theme – Starting a business with French, a story telling contest, an exhibition of French-speaking countries and a cosplay, noted Jean Philippe Rousse, attaché of cooperation and cultural activities at the Consulate General of France in Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition, the event also included a workshop discussing the role of tourism as a lever to develop the Francophone community in the Mekong Delta.-VNA
