Mekong Delta strives for comprehensive development goal

Mekong Delta provinces have set this year’s average income per capita goal at 36 million VND (1,700 USD), up 3.7 million VND against last year.

In order to realise this objective, theprovinces should focus on comprehensive development across every aspectof agriculture, industry, trade, services and tourism.

As agriculture is the region’s strongpoint, the diversification ofproducts as well as intensive cultivation based on each locality’sstrength should be focused on.

Regarding industry,the region should attach importance to small- and medium-sizedmanufacturing, exploit the sea’s potential and promote the efficiency ofmaritime transportation and industrial zones.

Increasing production capability, quality of agro-aquatic exports andconstruction materials, along with developing tourism and services -especially eco-tourism and the transformation of Phu Quoc into aninternational trading and tourist centre and Can Tho into an industrial,commercial and services centre – require significant thought and care.

In addition, technology and transport upgrades,social problems relating to environmental protection, job creation,poverty reduction and social welfare are also pressing the localities.-VNA
