Hanoi (VNA) – The central province of Lam Dong is fully prepared for the nationwide economic census 2026, Director of the provincial Statistics Office Pham Quoc Hung told the Vietnam News Agency.
Hung said the census, a major political task under a decision by the Minister of Finance, will unfold in two phases. From January through March, census takers will target household businesses, religious sites and cooperative groups. Later, from April to June, they will turn attention to enterprises, cooperatives, and non-public service units.
All the 124 communes, wards, and special zones across the province have established commune-level steering boards for the census. Lam Dong has also finalised its preparatory list, including 170,374 individual business households, and updated records on 1,934 religious and belief establishments and 218 cooperative groups.
According to him, the entire process needs to reassure respondents that statistical activities operate independently, information is protected under the Statistics Law, and all data collection is completely separate from tax management.
To deliver the census on schedule and to high standards province-wide, the provincial steering committee has drawn up a detailed plan backed by four targeted groups of solutions, namely tightening discipline during implementation, combing in-person examination and online monitoring, enhancing coordination to diversify communication methods to raise public awareness, and increasing personnel for disadvantaged areas, Hung noted.
The 2026 economic census was launched nationwide on January 7. It is one of three major national statistical censuses and plays a strategic role in improving the national economic information system. The survey aims to fully and objectively assess the current situation of economic establishments nationwide, including enterprises, public service units, associations, religious establishments, and individual business households.
Providing an overview of the local socio-economic situation, Hung said that in 2025, despite facing natural disasters and market volatility, Lam Dong maintained strong socio-economic growth, with estimated figures showing its GRDP up 6.42% from last year. Tourism and services stood out as it attracted about 20.7 million visitors, an increase of nearly 18% from 2024, and brought in over 56.6 trillion VND (2.17 billion USD) in revenue. This was thanks in large part to booming accommodation and food services that cemented the province’s status as one of Vietnam’s top destinations.
For 2026, Lam Dong has set a GRDP growth target of 10%. Achieving this will hinge on developing quality tourism and services, expanding industrial and processing activities, advancing strategic infrastructure, deepening administrative reforms, and bolstering business support, while ramping up efforts to attract both domestic and foreign investment to keep the boom going strong, Hung said./.
