Phnom Penh (VNA) – A 600-sqm memorial housewhere remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers dying in battle in Cambodia will be kept was inauguratedin the north-western province of Battambang on September 10.

Starting two months ago, the facility's construction was funded byMetfone, the Cambodia-based affiliate of military-run telecom group Viettel,and MB Bank in Cambodia.

It forms part of activities to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic relations.

The project’s launching ceremony was attended by VietnameseAmbassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang and General Ek Som Oun, deputy commanderof the Cambodian Royal Army and Commander of the Military Region 5.

Ambassador Tang expressed his thanks to Cambodianauthorities and people for providing all possible conditions for theconstruction of the memorial house, a worship place to pay tribute toVietnamese volunteer soldiers killed in Cambodia.

He expected the Cambodian side to continue supportingVietnam in searching for and repatriating the soldiers.

General Ek Som Oun, for his part, showed his gratitudetowards the Vietnamese Party, military and people for helping Cambodia topplethe Pol Pot genocidal regime and revive the country./.

Government pushes stronger data integration to tighten IUU fishing controls

According to the MAE, as of November 15, a total of 79,360 fishing vessels nationwide had been registered and updated in the national fisheries database (VNFishbase), reaching 100%. The number of licensed vessels stands at 76,811. Vessels found ineligible for operation have been placed under local supervision, with commune- and ward-level authorities assigned to manage their mooring.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang underlined NDN’s long-standing and close attachment to Vietnam, noting that it was among the first foreign media organisations to establish a resident office in the country.
