The Vietnam Mennonite Church (VMC) held its second general conference in Ho Chi Minh City on November 21.
The two-day event attracted more than 400 delegates, including 212 dignitaries and followers from 24 cities and provinces.
Addressing the conference, Nguyen Thanh Xuan, Deputy Head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, affirmed that the State continually implements policies that respect and ensure people’s rights to religious and belief freedom, as well as encourage progressive religious activities destined for the benefits of the nation and people.
This year’s conference will review the 2008-12 operational period, elect a new Executive Board for the second tenure and adopt the 2012-16 working plan.
The VMC was recognised by the Government Committee for Religious Affairs as a religious organisation in September, 2007. It received State recognition of its legal status in February, 2009.
During its operation, the Church’s dignitaries and followers have worked with people nationwide to contribute to the cause of national construction and protection.-VNA
