The Mexican city of Toluca, capital of the State of Mexico, wishes to expand cooperation with Vietnam and set up twinning relationship with the coastal city of Da Nang, according to the city’s Mayor Braulio Alvarez Jasso.
The mayor made the statement during a recent reception for Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Le Linh Lan, who came to the city to promote linkage between the two countries’ localities.
Alvarez hailed the Vietnamese people’s struggles during the liberation wars as well as the country’s achievements in national construction, especially in poverty reduction and economic development.
He stressed that the two countries share similar goals on socio-economic growth and culture, which are bases to set up multifaceted cooperation in various fields between them.
For her part, Ambassador Lan expressed pleasures to visit Toluca, especially in the context of the successful conclusion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, of which both Vietnam and Mexico are members.
According to the ambassador, the TPP will bring opportunities for both sides to develop economy and come closer to each other.
She expressed her hope that Vietnam and Mexico will hold meaningful activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, one of which can be the establishment of twining relation between Toluca and Da Nang city.
Toluca, with a population of over 1.5 million people, is the most important hub for industry, service and tourism of the State of Mexico, one of the most developed Mexican states.-VNA
