The lights flickering on the beach are from Con Dao's rangers, who quietly follow the track of mother sea turtles every night. They are also called "midwives" for sea turtles in Con Dao.
The sea turtle has many natural enemies, so its nest, with full of eggs inside, is very vulnerable to predators. Therefore, after mother turtles returned to the sea, the "midwives" always check their nests. They carefully put each egg into a safe hatchery.
Mr. Tran Manh Hung ( A ranger at Con Dao National Park ): Every year, we save over 1,000 turtles and we release about 150,000 baby turtles to the sea. Doing this job was hard at first. But after a while, I feel very happy about it.
Every night, I have to stay on the beach, waiting for the sea turtles. If they encounter obstacles on the way to the beach to lay eggs, I have to help them.
The turtle lays its eggs on the beach the whole night, so I and my colleagues also have to be on duty the whole night. Rangers working here are always away from their families. Sometimes we can only have a break after two months straight due to the nature of our work.
On the communication aspect, to get a good signal for mobile phones, we have to go out for about 1 kilometer. On the transportation aspect, it is difficult to get from this place to the main island and from the main island to other provinces.
For people who have stayed here for a while, the first reason is their love for the job, The second is they want to contribute to the conservation work. I think they are happy with this job./.
