A migrant resource centre (MRC) opened in Hanoi on May 29 as part of a cooperative programme between Vietnam ’s Department of Overseas Labour (DoLAB) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
Head of DoLAB Nguyen Ngoc Quynh said the centre is evidence of the Vietnamese Government’s efforts in promoting safe labour migration as well as IOM’s commitments to supporting the country in managing migrant workers.
The centre will create conditions for Vietnam and other Asian countries to exchange good practices in providing migrant support services.
MRC will provide and connect information about labour migration between relevant sides such as State agencies, organisations, businesses and migrant workers, contributing to ensuring legitimate rights and the best interests of the workers and preventing labour exploitation, as well as illegal migration.
IOM's Chief of Mission for Vietnam Florian Forster said the establishment of the MRC manifests the effective cooperation between the Vietnamese Government and IOM in labour migration.
In March, 2011, IOM assisted the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry to rescue and bring home safely over 10,500 Vietnamese guest workers from Libya in the wake of the political crisis in the African country.-VNA
