Military-run telecom Viettel to open US company

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a proposal by the telecommunications group Viettel to establish a Viettel America Company in the United States.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a proposal by thetelecommunications group Viettel to establish a Viettel America Companyin the United States.

Based in Miami, Florida, the companywill have total investment capital of more than 33 million USD. Viettelwill contribute 100,000 USD to charter capital and lend the company therest.

Apart from telecommunication services, the companyhopes to attract Vietnamese living in the US to work for Viettel indeveloping new products, a source from Viettel told Vietnam News on June19.

Under the PM’s direction, the Ministry of Defense willregularly supervise and check the use of State funds at the ViettelAmerica company.

Viettel has invested in many developingcountries, including Laos, Cambodia, Mozambique and Haiti. The group isalso heading to Myanmar and Russia.-VNA
