Hanoi (VNA) - Developing smart plants is an essential trend for Vietnamese manufacturing businesses today, emphasised Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai at a ceremony to kick off the smart factory development cooperation project for the northern region in 2023, which was co-organised by the ministry and Samsung Vietnam in Hanoi on July 3.

The Deputy Minister stated that in order to further promoting the country’s industrialisation and modernisation following the Central Party Committee’s Resolution No. 29, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has actively implemented joint programmes with multinational corporations and large FDI businesses in Vietnam to improve the quality of the local human resources and the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises in the fields of processing, manufacturing, and support industries.

The ministry’s cooperation with Samsung Vietnam in training workers and experts as well as consultancy firms on production improvement have been generating positive signals for the Vietnamese industrial sector, helping domestic firms obtain development opportunities and deeply integrate into the global supply chain.

Since its official investment in Vietnam in 2008, Samsung Vietnam has been making efforts to contribute to the development of the Vietnamese support industries through various support activities.

Choi Joo Ho, General Director of Samsung Vietnam, stated that based on the achievements in assisting the development of the support industries over the past seven years, the company will continue to enhance collaboration in smart manufacturing, as the area aligns with the Vietnamese Government's goal of creating high value added in the medium and long term.

Choi affirmed that via this project, Vietnamese businesses will strengthen their competitiveness according to global standards throughout the entire process, from development to production and sales. Furthermore, many outstanding ones among them will have more opportunities to be part of the global supply chains of Samsung and other global conglomerates.

According to the signed agreement between the MoIT and Samsung Vietnam, the project's support process includes the activities of selecting eligible businesses, and providing consultation for smart factory development and post-project management.

During the three-week theoretical training period, Samsung will collaborate with the ministry to choose Vietnamese experts with outstanding performances in the area of productivity and quality improvement. The group will receive advanced training on smart factories.

In the nine-week practical phase, Samsung experts and Vietnamese consultants will survey and assess participating firms, work closely with them to boost on-site operations, and establish the foundation for other steps toward the formation of smart factories.

Finally, based on the on-site consultation results, the experts will continue to assist businesses in building their operation and post-project management systems to promote continuous improvement activities and periodic evaluation of manufacturing/IT improvements after the project.

In line with the sides’ Memorandum of Understanding on their smart factory development cooperation project, 50 consultants were trained and 26 businesses applying smart factories in both the northern and southern regions obtained consultation and assistance for improvement last year./.
