The Ministry of Health will send young volunteer doctors to rural, mountainous, remote and island areas under a trial programme this year.
The doctors, all of whom are graduates of medical universities, do not currently work at state-owned health-care centres or hospitals. Male doctors must commit to working at least three to five years and female doctors, two to three years.
In the first phase (from 2013 to 2016), the programme is expected to bring 500 young doctors to 20 provinces that have disadvantaged districts.
To date, more than 100 young doctors have volunteered for the programme.-VNA
