Moderna COVID-19 vaccine approved for children from 6 to under 12 years old

Vietnam’s health authorities announced they have expanded the emergency use authorisation for Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (Spikevax) to include children from 6 to under 12 years old.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s health authorities announced they have expandedthe emergency use authorisation for Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (Spikevax) toinclude children from 6 to under 12 years old.

The dosagewill be 0.25ml, or half of the dosage for adults, according to the DrugAdministration of Vietnam.

The amendmentto the original approval of the vaccine is based on the request and subsequentdata submission from Zuellig Pharma Vietnam, which distributes the COVID-19vaccines in the Asian region.

The primaryvaccination course is two doses, with the interval between the two shots set atfour weeks.

Previously,the Ministry of Health had approved Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines(Comirnaty) for use in children aged 5-11 years old.

Vietnam is setto start vaccinating children in the 5-11 age range on the second week ofApril, with the first batch of vaccines (both Pfizer and Moderna’s) slated tobe delivered as aid from Australia in the coming days.

The ministryhas been asking local administrations and health authorities to prepare to getthe vaccination campaign rolling as soon as the vaccines are allocated anddistributed.

As of March27, the ministry said they had received 227.8 million COVID-19 vaccines,including over 14 million doses of Moderna, all of which were donations fromother countries or through COVAX./.

PM releases instructions as measles cases increase

Vietnam has recorded nearly 40,000 suspected measles cases and five measles-related deaths since the beginning of this year. The southern region reported the highest number of cases (57%), the central region accounted for 19.2%, the north 15.1%, and the Central Highlands 8.7%.

Rota vaccine campaign launched
