Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj on November 24 successfully concluded his four-day State visit to Vietnam, made at the invitation of President Truong Tan Sang.
During his stay, the Mongolian leader held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart and had meetings with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.
At the meetings, the two sides briefed each other on the current situation in each country, discussed and agreed on a number of key measures to further foster their traditional bilateral friendship and cooperation, while touching upon regional and international matters of mutual concern.
They were unanimous in the maintenance of meetings and exchanges between senior leaders and other levels, as well as between ministries and sectors.
The two countries will enhance coordination in defence-security, while stepping up people-to-people contacts and cultural, education and art exchanges and giving more support to their guest Vietnamese and Mongolian communities.
Vietnam and Mongolia will work closely in organising activities to celebrate the 60 th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2014.
They hailed the recognition of each country’s full market economy, stressing that the two sides should stand side by side in boosting economic and trade ties.
They also expressed delight at their close coordination at international and regional forums like the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, the ASEAN Regional Forum, the World Trade Organisation and the Asia-Europe Meeting.
Both sides underscored the need to maintain peace, stability, maritime freedom, security and safety in the East Sea and affirmed their support towards the settlement of disputes through peaceful methods without using or threatening to use forces, in respect for international law.
During the visit, President Elbegdorj and the high-ranking Mongolian delegation laid wreaths at the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Martyrs Monument.
The Mongolian leader witnessed the signing of four bilateral cooperation agreements in diplomacy, criminal prevention and combat, defence and oil and gas.
The leader also visited several cultural and economic establishments in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the southern coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
Vietnam and Mongolia signed their first trade agreement in 1958. In December 2012, the two sides officially recognised each other as full market economies.
