Eight villages in Nam Giang district of the central province of Quang Nam have established twinning ties with counterparts in Dak Cheung district of Laos’ Sekong province, contributing to further tightening the special friendship and solidarity between the two countries.

Hundreds of local people from both districts braved heavy rain to gather at the twinning ceremony held on September 18 in the Dak Ta Ooc border gate in Nam Giang.

Representatives from Sekong province spoke highly of the support that Quang Nam province’s authorities and people have given to the Lao locality over the past years, such as building schools and providing rice and free medical check-ups.

Local people said the establishment of twin relations not only brings the communities closer together but also helps with the management of border areas and the protection of sovereignty and security of both sides.

In July this year, Duc Lang village in Dak Glei district of the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum (Vietnam) was also twinned with Thong Kay Ooc hamlet in Sanxay district of Attapeu province (Laos).-VNA
