Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a list of selected news summaries last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Australian Governor-General David Hurley and his spouse Linda Hurley arrived in Hanoi on April 3 afternoon, beginning their State visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong.

This is the first foreign leader paying a State visit to Vietnam in 2023, and also the first national guest that President Vo Van Thuong has received in his new position. The visit is part of activities in celebration of the 50th founding anniversary of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic relations. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the Government’s online conference with localities and the Government's monthly meeting in Hanoi on April 3.

In the afternoon, participants discussed an additional evaluation report on the implementation results of the public investment plan in 2022 and the deployment of the public investment plan in 2023; an additional evaluation report on the performance results of the socio-economic development plan in 2022 and the deployment of the socio-economic development plan in 2023. Read full story

- The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security vows to work closely with Japanese ministries and agencies to ensure the security and safety of Japanese firms and citizens in Vietnam, said Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Gen. To Lam.

During a meeting with Deputy Secretary General of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party Fumiaki Kobayashi in Tokyo on April 3, Lam said this year marks the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties and the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan relations. Read full story

- President of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) Ha Thi Nga met with outstanding female overseas Vietnamese in Vientiane on April 3 as part of her working visit to Laos.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung said the Vietnamese community in Laos now count over 100,000, about half of them are women. Each Vietnamese association in Laos has committees and sub-committees on women’s affairs. Read full story

- Chairman of the Lang Son provincial People’s Committee Ho Tien Thieu held talks with Lan Xiao, alternate member  of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Chongzuo municipal Party Committee on April 3.

Thieu asked both sides to implement agreements signed at the 2023 Spring Meeting for provincial Party Committees’ secretaries and the 14th conference of the joint working group of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Vietnamese provinces of Ha Giang, Quang Ninh, Lang Son and Cao Bang, as well as common perceptions reached by Secretary of the Lang Son provincial Party Committee Nguyen Quoc Doan and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Liu Ning during their talks on March 30. Read full story

- The Vietnam Cooperative Alliance (VCA) and the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF) of the Republic of Korea (RoK) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the 2018-2021 period at a ceremony in Hanoi on April 3.

Addressing the event, VCA Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Bao said that the alliance has been actively supported by international organisations, including NACF, through exchange of information and experience in cooperative development, granting scholarships to VCA's staff, and supporting each other at meetings of the  International Cooperative Alliance - Asia and Pacific (ICA- AP). Read full story

- The tax sector collected an estimated 462.92 trillion (19.71 billion USD) for the State budget in the first quarter of 2023, equivalent to 31.1% of the yearly estimate, the General Department of Taxation reported on April 3.

Of the total, domestic collection reached over 411.4 trillion VND, equivalent to 30.9% of its estimate for the year, and up 5.3% compared to the same period last year. Read full story

- Students' teams from the Water Resources University and Can Tho University of Vietnam won two second prizes for technologies to monitor water level and measure soil moisture in a contest initiated by the Mekong River Commission (MRC), which took place in Vientiane, Laos, on March 30 and 31.
