- Party General Secretary To Lam has emphasised the need for advisory efforts for the implementation of a scheme to streamline the political system’s organisational apparatus in association with personnel restructuring, thus making breakthrough progress in completing targets set at the 13th National Party Congress.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on December 16 suggested Japan’s Yamaguchi prefecture establish partnerships with other Vietnamese localities, apart from the southern province of Binh Duong.

The Government leader made the suggestion while receiving Yamaguchi Governor Muraoka Tsugumasa in Hanoi, who was in Vietnam to attend the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between Yamaguchi and Binh Duong. Read full story

- A political consultation between the Vietnamese and Lao ministers of foreign affairs took place in Vientiane on December 16, reviewing the past cooperation between their ministries and discussing future joint work and international and regional matters of common interest.

- Vietnam’s business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce export value is estimated at 145.2 trillion VND (5.8 billion USD) by 2028, with micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) projected to contribute 25%.

- Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fisheries exports are projected to reach over 62 billion USD in 2024, and continue to grow next year, heard at a conference in Ho Chi Minh City on December 16.

Speaking at the conference on export promotion in Ho Chi Minh City, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality, Processing, and Market Development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Thanh Hoa highlighted that 2024 is a remarkable year for Vietnam’s agricultural sector, both in production and export. - Vietnam has emerged as a burgeoning hub for the semiconductor industry, now home to 174 foreign-invested projects with a total registered capital of nearly 11.6 billion USD, according to Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung.

Dung, who also serves as deputy head of the National Steering Committee for Semiconductor Industry Development, highlighted the country's commitment to fostering the industry through refining policies, launching a human resources development programme, a semiconductor industry development strategy and ecosystem. - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has appointed former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra as an informal adviser to assist with the country’s ASEAN chairmanship in 2025.
