Hanoi, (VNA) - The following is a list of selected news summaries last weekend by the Vietnam News Agency.

-President Vo Van Thuong on June 17 attended a flag-saluting ceremony at a sovereignty flag pole on Phu Quy island, an island district of the south central province of Binh Thuan.
The pole is one of the sovereignty flag poles built on outpost islands from the North to the South as part of projects launched by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Association of Vietnamese Students and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV).Read full text

- A high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly of Côte d'Ivoire led by its President Adama Bictogo left Hanoi on June 16, successfully concluding their four-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
This was the highest-level delegation and Bictogo was the first President of the Côte d’Ivoire NA to have visit Vietnam in 48 years.Read full text

-Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the inaugural ceremony of the Nha Trang-Cam Lam and Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet Expressways in the south-central coastal province of Khanh Hoa on June 18.
The expressways are included in the eastern part of the North-South Expressway project for the 2017-2020 period.Read full text

-Also on June 18, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued an order to simultaneously start the construction of three important national transport projects at a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on June 18.
The ceremony was linked to sites in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak and the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
The projects comprise Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 3, the first phase of the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway, and the first phase of the Khanh Hoa-Buon Ma Thuot Expressway.Read full text

-Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on June 17 asked the Mekong Delta province of An Giang to mobilise resources to develop infrastructure for cross-border trade.
During his working session with provincial leaders, Chinh said that An Giang shares a 104-km borderline with Cambodia and has two international border gates, which are favourable conditions for developing border trade with Cambodia and connecting with ASEAN. Read full text

-Russia’s Rosseti power grid company and the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), a subordinate company of the Vietnam Electricity (EVN) Group, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to resume their long-term strategic cooperation which has been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the 26th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in Russia.Read full text

- A delegation of Hai Phong city led by Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Le Tien Chau paid a working trip to the Japanese prefecture of Chiba on June 16.
Governor of Chiba prefecture Toshihito Kumagai welcomed the delegation's visit which coincided with the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties. He informed them about Chiba's socio-economic situation and the Hai Phong community in the prefecture.Read full text

-The “For peace and friendship among nations” insignias, the most noble award of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), have been conferred upon three US friends for their contributions to preventing the US war in Vietnam, addressing the consequences of the war, reconciling and promoting the Vietnam-US people-to-people exchanges.
The awardees include Ron Carver, a social activist for peace and a scholar who participated in demonstrations demanding an end to the American war in Vietnam; and Ronald Haeberle, a war correspondent and photographer who took more than 60 photos of the bloody massacre in My Lai on March 16, 1968, helping bring the case to justice and the world public opinion and create the premise for a series of movements against the war.Read full text

-The People’s Committee of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue organised a ceremony on June 17 evening at Ngọ Mon Square in Hue city to celebrate the UNESCO recognition of the Complex of Hue Monuments and nha nhac (royal court music).
The Complex of Hue Monuments was recognised as a World Cultural Heritage on December 11, 1993, and the royal court music won the recognition on November 7, 2003.Read full text

-A Vietnamese street food festival entitled “Ici Vietnam Festival” was held on June 17 at Monge Square in District 5, Paris by the Vietnamese Association in France (UGVF) and the Vietnam Youth Association in France (UJVF).
This is the third year the festival has been organised, offering visitors opportunities to taste popular Vietnamese dishes and fruits. This year, visitors can also enjoy contemporary music, with the excitement of electronic music, pop and rap, performed by French-Vietnamese DJ-beatmakers.Read full text

-A culture-trade exchange programme was held in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on June 17 to mark the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Japan.
