- Vietnam and Russia have issued a Joint Statement on deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership, building on the achievements of the three-decade implementation of their Treaty on Principles of Friendly Relations.

Released as part of Russian President Vladimir Putin's state visit to Vietnam on June 19 and 20, the joint statement wrote that the two countries will continuously strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership based on friendship and mutual support amidst a complex international landscape. In 2025, they will celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, marking a long journey of overcoming challenges together. Read full story

- Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Hanoi on June 20, hailing his fifth visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the 30th signing anniversary of the Treaty on Principles of Friendly Relations between Vietnam and Russia, toward the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year.

Party chief Trong congratulated Putin on his re-election, stressing that the high number of votes reflected the Russian people’s trust in his leadership. He outlined Vietnam's development goals, which include becoming a developing country with modern industry and upper-middle income by 2030, and a developed country with high income by 2045. - Vietnamese President To Lam and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin held talks following a state-level welcome ceremony for the latter in Hanoi on June 20.

President Lam emphasised the significance of the visit, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Principles of Friendly Relations between the two nations (1994-2024). He also congratulated the Russian people on their achievements under President Putin's leadership and the Russian President on the high support he obtained in the March presidential election. - The General Department of Taxation of Vietnam and the Federal Taxation Service of the Russian Federation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation in Hanoi on June 20.

The signing ceremony of the MoU was held on the sidelines of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Vietnam from June 19-20. Read full story

- Vietnam once again affirmed that its sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) is in accordance with international law and legitimate rights over its territorial waters established in the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said on June 20.

Responding to a reporter's question regarding the Philippines' submission of an Extended Continental Shelf (ECS) claim in the East Sea to the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS), Hang said coastal states, as parties to the 1982 UNCLOS, have the right to determine their outer continental shelf boundaries in line with relevant provisions of the 1982 UNCLOS. - Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh and Deputy Minister of the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Environment Hyoeun Jenny Kim co-chaired the first meeting of the Vietnam-RoK Joint Working Group on Climate Change Cooperation on June 20.

The virtual meeting came after both countries pledged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in 2021. Read full story

- About 100 anglers from Vietnam and China's Guangxi will take part in the second qualifying round of the Vietnam - China International Sport Fishing Friendly Tournament held at the MIDI sport fishing lake in Ho Chi Minh City's Thu Duc city from June 21-24, according to the Vietnam Sport Fishing Association.

The anglers will compete in individual and team categories. They will be divided into eight lots, competing in four rounds, each round lasting 70 minutes. Read full story./.
