- A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) attended the 23rd International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties, which took place in Turkey’s Izmir city from October 20-22.

The event, hosted by the Communist Party of Turkey, brought together 120 delegates from 68 communist and worker parties of 54 countries worldwide. Read full story

- The Ministers of Public Security, Industry and Trade, and Construction, and chairpersons of the People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities nationwide have been asked to seriously and effectively implement the fire prevention and fighting work, planning, and construction management for multi-story apartment buildings.

In an official dispatch signed on October 22, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked for further review of regulations, norms, and standards on multi-story buildings, thus promptly addressing shortcomings and ensuring absolute safety for people and assets during the process of use. Read full story

- Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang on October 23 met with the Second Vice President of the Cambodian National Assembly (NA) Vong Sauth.

At the meeting, the ambassador congratulated Vong Sauth on being elected as Second Vice President of the Cambodian NA and expressed his admiration for the great achievements that the Cambodian people have achieved in the past decade, especially in the last three years during the COVID-19 pandemic. Read full story

- Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Bui Xuan Cuong hosted a reception on October 23 for visiting State Secretary of the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research Dominique Paravicini.

- The Su That (Truth) National Political Publishing House has published a book on stories about President Ho Chi Minh, which was translated by Nguyen Hai Hong and Duong Trung Dung from a Chinese publication.

- The Government has proposed the National Assembly (NA) to allow it to continue the 2% interest rate support policy for enterprises, cooperatives, and business households.

Presenting the results of the implementation of the NA’s Resolution 43/2022/QH15 (Resolution 43) on fiscal and monetary policies to support Vietnam’s post-pandemic socio-economic recovery and development at the NA's 6th session on October 23, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that after nearly two years of performance, Resolution 43 has proved to be a correct and timely decision of the NA as Vietnam's socio-economic situation faced many difficulties and challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Read full story

- Vietnamese carriers Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines and Vasco have offered over 6 million tickets for sale to meet rising travel demand during Lunar New Year (Tet) 2024, which is forecast to be higher than last year.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), the Vietnamese airlines operated a total of 221,197 flights in the first nine months of this year. Of which, Vietnam Airlines Group, comprising Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and Vasco, operated over 100,000 flights, or about 45% of the market share. It was followed by Vietjet Air with 83,933 flights, equivalent to 38%; and Bamboo Airways 32,538 flights, roughly 15%. Read full story

- The structure of public investment capital in the last few years has changed in line with Vietnam’s economic reforms, boosting the restructuring of industries, and regions as well as balancing socio-economic development and social welfare, said Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung.

|Presenting a report on the implementation of the medium-term public investment plan for the 2021-2025 period at the National Assembly (NA)'s 6th session on October 23, the minister said that about 90% of the total capital that the NA had approved to use in the period has been allocated to ministries, central agencies, and localities. Read full story

- The trade relationship between Vietnam and the United Kingdom experienced significant growth in bilateral trade over the past year, according to data released by the UK government's Department for International Trade on October 19.

The total trade in goods and services between the UK and Vietnam during the four quarters leading up to the end of Q1 2023 amounted to 6.7 billion GBP (8.14 billion USD), marking a substantial increase of 16.6% compared to the same period in 2022. Read full story

- Ho Chi Minh City tallied 6.687 billion USD in overseas remittances during the first nine months of 2023, up 40% year on year and 1.3% over all of 2022, according to the local branch of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV).

The remittances stood at 2.353 billion USD in the third quarter, up 6.2% from Q2. Totals in Q2 were up 4.5% from Q1, statistics show. Read full story
