A range of activities will be held to mark the 60th anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Trail and traditional day of Truong Son soldiers (May 19), heard a press conference held by the Ministry of National Defence in Hanoi on April 3.

Hanoi (VNA) – A range of activities will be held to mark the 60th anniversaryof the Ho Chi Minh Trail and traditional day of Truong Son soldiers (May 19),heard a press conference held by the Ministry of National Defence in Hanoi onApril 3.

Oneof the major activities include a national scientific workshop on the legendarytrail slated for May 13. It will be co-organised by the Vietnam MilitaryHistory Museum, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education,and the Party Committee of the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong.

Therewill be an exhibition at the Ho Chi Minh Trail Museum, art exchanges in thecentral province of Nghe An, a candle-lighting ceremony at the Truong SonNational Martyrs’ Cemetery in the central province of Quang Tri, a writingcontest, a meeting of war veterans, and a commemorative ceremony to be held bythe defence ministry.

Thepress conference also brought up the settlement of consequences of bombs andmines left over from the war. Colonel Nguyen Hanh Phuc, deputy director of theVietnam National Mine Action Centre, said work in this field has been carriedout with the joint efforts of people from all aspects of society.

Apartfrom activities in response to International Mine Awareness Day (April 4) inHanoi and other localities, Vietnam has focused on implementing bomb and mineclearance projects. This includes a project on the settlement of bomb and mine consequencesin the central provinces of Quang Binh and Binh Dinh with the total funding of20 million USD sourced from the Republic of Korea (RoK) through the KoreanInternational Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Aprogramme on building an information system to manage bomb and minecontamination, as well as developing equipment and facilities to serve bomb andmine clearance has also been implemented by the defence ministry.

Thecountry will continue to cooperate with partners and expand relations withpotential partners in this field, while pushing ahead with the implementationof relevant memoranda of understanding (MoU) it has signed.

Projectson the technical study of bomb and mine consequence settlement in Ha Giang, LaiCai, Cao Bang, Quang Nam, and Quang Tri, using ODA capital from variouscountries alongside domestic and international organisations, will also be deployedin the time ahead. –VNA

Vietnamese community in Australia supports flood victims back home

Coast Guard Region 3 intensifies patrols to combat IUU fishing

After ten days of implementing a peak campaign against IUU fishing from October 29 to November 8, patrol and inspection forces of Coast Guard Region 3, in coordination with Border Guard Squadron 18, detected and fined 54 fishing vessels, collecting more than 580 million VND (about 22,000 USD) in fines.

Vietnam Red Cross launches emergency aid for storm-hit provinces

The Vietnam Red Cross Society has decided to allocate over 3.3 billion VND (125,472 USD) in cash and goods to assist Dak Lak, Gia Lai, and Quang Ngai provinces, with the funding from its H2025 relief account at Vietcombank and from the “Clean Water for Communities” project, sponsored by Procter & Gamble (P&G) through Americares.
