Murals give new look to HCM City’s old apartment buildings

A street mural project has been recently launched in Ho Chi Minh City to honour street artists and give old apartment blocks in the southern hub a facelift.

On a crane platform 20 metres above the ground, street artist Luu Doan Duy Linh is painting a mural on an old apartment building in District 1.

Linh’s mural is part of Saigon Urban Arts 2021: Street Mural Painting (SUA 2021), an international art project organised by the French Institute and the Goethe-Institut in Ho Chi Minh City with support from the Franco-German Cultural Fund.

All of the art works created within the project reflect the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.

Old mossy walls are being decorated with lively images, giving local people hope for a brighter future.

Other murals are being painted along Hoang Sa Street and on the villa at 48 Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street./.
