Hanoi (VNA) – Myanmar’s Department of Fisheries has designated some islands in Kyunsu, southern Taninthayi region as restricted areas for fishing, local media reported.
According to the department, the territorial water near Tharmyar Ami island and Wetphyu Taing island, 15 nautical miles away from Kyunsu, are prohibited for fishing for the first time starting from October 10.
The move aims to protect small salmons living near those islands.
The country’s authorities said they will carry out patrol around the banned areas, adding that violators will face penalties.-VNA
