Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung on November 9 in Hanoi hosted a reception for a high-ranking delegation of country executive directors from the World Bank (WB).
During the meeting, the Chairman praised the WB’s contributions and affirmed the bank’s assistance helped Vietnam come close to achieving the United Nations’ Millennium Goals and begin implementing the UN’s sustainable development programmes, which was passed at the UN’s General Assembly in September.
He recommended the WB to extend preferential loans to Vietnam as well as assist Vietnam to deal with climate change.
Vietnam has issued and implemented policies on poverty alleviation and new rural programmes focusing on farmers but the country needs financial assistance and consultation from international organisations, including the WB, he said.
Rionald Silaban, WB’s country director in Indonesia, on behalf of the delegation, said the goal of the visit is to get opinions from the leaders of countries in the region to serve as a basis for planning the WB’s activities in the upcoming time.
The delegation spoke of socio-economic achievements Vietnam have achieved and said that it would work alongside with Vietnam in the sustainable development.-VNA
Indonesia to borrow 4.2 bln USD from WB and ADB
The Indonesian Ministry of Finance has said the country would borrow 4.2 billion USD from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to cover budget deficit.
