National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung held bilateral meetings with top legislators from China and Belarus, and the IPU President in New York on September 1 (Hanoi time) on the sidelines of the 4th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.

During the meeting with his ​, Chairman Hung said the Vietnamese NA is keen to increase delegation exchanges with the Chinese National People’s Congress, share professional experience and enhance coordination and mutual support at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums.

By doing so, mutual understanding, trust and solidarity between the two legislative bodies will be strengthened, paving the way for growth of the Vietnam-China relationship, he said.

On the East Sea issue, the NA Chairman said the two sides should abide by agreements and common perspectives of senior leaders of both countries on controlling maritime disputes, refraining from taking any action that complicates or expands disputes while working together to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea.

Both sides should also strictly and fully implement the agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of maritime-related issues as well as the ​ while working with other ASEAN members to soon finalise the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC), he said.

For his part, Zhang lauded the success of the 132 nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132) hosted by Vietnam, as well as the active engagement of Vietnam’s NA in building the international community’s common targets for peace and prosperity.

Meanwhile, in a meeting the same day with the Vietnamese NA Chairman, IPU President Saber Chowdhury recalled his fond memories of Vietnam and its people during his stay in Vietnam in March for the IPU-132.

The success of the IPU-132 made positive contributions to promoting the union’s role and position in the world arena, he said, adding that he hopes for Vietnam’s further involvement in IPU activities in the future.

The Vietnamese top legislator said as part of efforts to realise the post-2015 Development Agenda and sustainable development goals, Vietnam’s NA will issue, amend and supplement a number of legal documents related to the implementation of the agenda and its goals.

The NA will also determine plans and budgets while supervising law enforcement and socio-economic activities related to the implementation of the agenda, he said.

At a meeting with Vladimir Andreichenko, Speaker of Belarus’s lower house, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said he is delighted at the growing friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

He proposed that the two sides should speed up economic and trade collaboration to match the sound political relations as well as each other’s potential.

Andreichenko suggested that the two legislative bodies, friendship parliamentarian groups as well as legislators increase exchanges and information sharing for deepened mutual understanding, contributing to realising cooperation programmes and projects between the two governments.-VNA

Bru–Van Kieu community in Quang Tri gear up for early voting
