Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on September 15 discussed reports of the Government, the Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Procuracy on the settlement of complaints and denunciations in 2017.

The Government’s report said that since 2016, the number of complaints and denunciations has reduced, but there are more complicated cases involved large numbers of people (up 13.5 percent), the majority of which are related to land issues.

According to the Government, the ratio of successful settlement of the cases is higher than that in the same period last year, but still stays below targets. Many localities still show poor performance in the work.

Speaking on its assessment of the Government’s report, the NA Law Committee remarked that the Government’s report has yet to make deep analysis of the results and quality of the reception of citizens and handling petitions and denunciations, particularly the causes of the cases. The report also fails to give full data on the handling of the heads of agencies with violations in receiving citizens and dealing with complaints.

Solutions to existing problems given in the report are too general, the committee said.

Chairman of the NA Law Committee Nguyen Khac Dinh requested that in the coming time, the Government should improve the efficiency of citizen reception work and complaint settlement, as well as the popularization and education of law among the community.-VNA
