Beijing (VNA) – A delegation of Vietnam’s National Assembly led by Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty is paying an official visit to China from December 18-22, as a step to carry out cooperation agreements between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

On December 19, Ty, also President of the Vietnam-China Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group, was received by Chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee Zhang Dejiang.

Zhang Dejiang emphasised that China treasures the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with Vietnam, and urged the two sides to make greater efforts to realise the comprehensive cooperation between the Communist Party of China and the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the two countries.

Regarding disputes at sea, Zhang Dejiang said the two countries should control disputes and solve problems through friendly talks and mutually beneficiary cooperation.

Law making bodies of the two countries should implement common perceptions reached by their leaders over the past time and intensify cooperation mechanisms.

The two sides should join hands to implement cooperation agreements between the two NAs, and increase high-ranking delegation exchange and the sharing of experience in law and Party building, he said.

He underlined the significance of communication work to raise trust of people of the two countries, considering this a foundation for a stronger relationship.

Zhang Dejiang took the occasion to repeat an invitation from Chinese Party General Secretary and President to NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan to pay an official visit to China in 2018.

For his part, NA Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty highlighted positive developments of the bilateral ties over the past time, as evidenced through regular visits and meetings between high-ranking leaders of the two countries.

He called on the two sides to look at disputes at sea from the angle of a long-term strategic vision and international sea-related law, adhere to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, soon complete a Code of Conduct in the East Sea, and fully respect legitimate interests of concerned parties.

Later the same day, Ty held talks with Xiang Ba Ping Cuo, Vice Chairman of Standing Committee of the NPC, and met with Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Jiarui.

During the meetings, the two sides affirmed the importance both Vietnam and China attach to the bilateral relationship.-VNA
