Nam Dinh, (VNA) – The northern province of Nam Dinh aims to cover additional 8,000-10,000 workers at non-State enterprises with health and social insurance by the end of this year.
The goal was revealed by Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Le Doai at a conference on October 13.
It forms part of the province’s target to expand health insurance coverage, particularly among workers at industrial zones and in disadvantaged areas, from 2016-2020.
In order to realise the goal, communication work should be promoted to raise the awareness of the significance of joining health insurance among locals, especially farmers and fishermen, said Doai.
The Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs need s to provide consultation s on social and health insurance regulations for employers and employees.
Meanwhile,‘saving to buy health insurance’ models should be multiplied across the province.
As of early October 2016, Nam Dinh has over 1.2 million people with health insurance, accounting for over 70 percent of the local population, according to Director of the provincial Social Insurance Tran Van Dung.
Under the target set by the Government, t he province must raise the rate of people covered by health insurance to 73.8 percent this year, he said .-VNA
