Hanoi (VNA) – A ceremony to launch the National Action Month for Children 2019 is scheduled to take place in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong on June 1, the Children's Day, said the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).
The annual action month this year will be launched across the country under the theme of “Joining hands for poor and ethnic children”. Activities in the month aim to provide support for poor children and those of ethnic groups and create equal development chances for every child, among others.
The MoLISA ordered authorities and relevant agencies to devise plans to implement the month in respective localities. They are also asked to enhance communication activities to raise public awareness of laws and policies for the children as well as against child marriage, dropout and abuse.
In addition, organisations and individuals are called on to donate for the National Fund for Vietnamese Children to finance meals and construction of school facilities and entertainment zones, along with scholarships and medical checkups for them.
Localities are required to conduct regular checks in places with the risk of child drowning and traffic accidents, and devise measures to prevent such incidents.
Notably, in the month, localities nationwide will arrange forums to receive recommendations and initiatives for better realisation of children’s rights, with the participation of disadvantaged and ethnic children.
The annual month has been organised on the basis of the Law on Children issued in 2016. It is launched each June to urge the community to take care of and educate and protect the children.-VNA
