National Assembly examine revised bill on intellectual property

The National Assembly discussed the draft law on amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Intellectual Property (IP) on October 21, as part of the 15th legislature’s second session.

Hanoi (VNA) –The National Assembly discussed the draft law on amending and supplementing anumber of articles of the Law on Intellectual Property (IP) on October 21, aspart of the 15th legislature’s second session.

Minister of Science andTechnology Huynh Thanh Dat underlined the urgent need to revise the IP Law asVietnam is shifting from being a user to a creator of IP.  

NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Huesaid building the law is a difficult task that requires great intellectualpower.   

Deputy Tran Cong Phan ofBinh Duong said reports showed IP disputes and violations settled throughcivilian suits at courts account for only a very small ratio compared to tensof thousands of violation of IP rights settled by administrative measures. Mostviolations are related to copyrights.

Deputy Le Minh Chuan ofQuang Ninh province expressed approval of the draft law’s stipulation that theregistration of inventions or industrial designs which are results ofscientific-technological assignments funded by the State budget isautomatically awarded to the organization in charge of the assignment./.
