National Assembly opens 10th session

The National Assembly, the 13th tenure, opened its 10th session and the last in 2015, in a live broadcast ceremony at Dien Hong Hall, the National Assembly House, in Hanoi on October 20.

The National Assembly, the 13th tenure, opened its 10th session and the last in 2015, in a live broadcast ceremony at Dien Hong Hall, the National Assembly House, in Hanoi on October 20.

The session, scheduled to last 31 days, will focus on building laws to implement the 2013 Constitution and monitoring, assessing and deciding important socio-economic issues.

In opening the session, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung stressed that the session has a large workload as the country is accelerating efforts to fulfil the socio-economic development tasks for 2015 and the five-year period from 2011-2015. At the same time, Party organisations at all levels are organising congresses and preparation are being made for the elections of the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils in 2016.

The NA Chairman said the session is expected to examine and pass 18 bills and several resolutions while giving opinions on 8 other draft laws.

Also tabled for scrutiny are the Government’s report on the implementation of socio-economic development and State budget tasks in 2015 and 2011-2015 period; the socio-economic development plans, budget estimates and budget allocation plans for 2016; the socio-economic development plans for 2016-2020, the mid-term plan on public investment for 2016-2020 and the financing plan for 2016-2020.

At this session, the NA will decide the date for the elections of the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils of the 2016-2021 tenure. The NA will also establish the National Electoral Council, elect the Chairman and approve the Vice Chairmen and members of the council.

The NA will elect a General Secretary of the legislative body.

At the opening session, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung presented the Government report on socio-economic situation in 2015 and the socio-economic development plan for 2016.-VNA
