The Vietnamese Embassy in Laos hosted a banquet on August 30 in Vientiane , to celebrate the 67 th anniversary of Vietnam ’s National Day (September 2).
The event was attended by Lao leaders, representatives of the Vietnamese community in Laos and international friends.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Ta Minh Chau reviewed remarkable achievements the Vietnamese people have attained over the past 67 years under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Over the past time, the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos have been deepened, bringing practical and positive results for the two nations, the diplomat said.
The Party and people of Vietnam are delighted at the great and comprehensive achievements the Lao people have recorded under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, Chau said.
He expressed his gratitude to the Lao Party and State for their support to the Vietnamese community in Laos to stabilise their lives in the country.
Vietnam always attaches importance to and will do its utmost, together with the Party, State and people of Laos, to maintain, consolidate and develop the relationship and meet aspirations and interests of each country’s people, and for peace, stability, friendship, cooperation, development and prosperity in the region.
The Vietnamese Embassy in India also hosted a banquet on August 29 to mark the special day.
Addressing the event, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Tan reviewed the traditional friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and India over the 40 years since the two countries set up their diplomatic ties in 1972.
The relationship is developing in all fields, the ambassador affirmed.
Apart from the diplomatic ties, the economic and trade ties between the two countries have made new progresses with two-way trade reaching 3.9 billion USD in 2011, much higher than the 2006 figure of 1 billion USD, Tan noted.
The two countries are determined to achieve the 7 billion USD target of bilateral trade by 2015, he added.
The Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau on August 29 also held a ceremony to mark National Day.
Representatives of the Hong Kong authority, the Chinese Foreign Ministry and foreign diplomatic corps in Hong Kong attended the event.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Consul General to Hong Kong and Macau Nguyen Thi Nha recalled Vietnam ’s history and significant achievements the country has gained over the past 67 years.
The cooperation between Vietnam and Hong Kong in all fields, especially in economics, trade, culture and tourism, has reaped remarkable fruits in recent years, she said.
Last year, export-import turnover between the two sides hit 3.2 billion USD and Hong Kong has become Vietnam ’s third largest investor.
In the first six months of this year, the figure reached 5.3 billion USD, representing a year-on-year increase of more than 45 percent, she added.
Nha expressed her hope that the relations between Vietnam and Hong Kong will further develop in future.-VNA
