National fund supports COVID-19-hit children

The National Fund for Vietnamese Children has provided 7.78 billion VND (342,572 USD) to children orphaned by COVID-19 and offered aid of over 7 billion VND 308,263 USD) in cash and kind to 12,800 others affected by the pandemic.

Hanoi (VNA) – The National Fund for Vietnamese Children has provided 7.78 billion VND (342,572 USD) to children orphaned by COVID-19 and offered aid of over 7 billion VND 308,263 USD) in cash and kind to 12,800 others affected by the pandemic.

Statistics showed that COVID-19 has turned 2,352 children into orphans, mostly in Ho Chi Minh City (1,584) and southern localities such as Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Long An, Dong Thap, Tien Giang, and An Giang.

In the time to come, the fund will continue to coordinate with the Departments of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in cities and provinces nationwide to assist orphans, with 5 million VND to be given to each child who has lost mother or father, and 20 million VND to each orphan losing both parents.

As scheduled, by the end of this December, 2,500 children orphaned by the pandemic will receive support from the fund with a total amount of over 14 billion VND to help them overcome current difficulties.

Meanwhile, the fund will also call for the engagement of organisations and individuals in supporting children hit by COVID-19.

People-to-people diplomacy contributes to Ho Chi Minh City’s development

Ho Chi Minh City currently has 117 licensed foreign NGOs operating in areas including healthcare, education, social protection and community development. As of September 2026, the municipal People’s Committee had approved 30 applications to receive and implement project and non-project aid packages, with total committed funding of about 302 billion VND (11.6 million USD).

Hanoi puts 28 more electric buses into operation

The new VinFast Green Bus vehicles, manufactured in 2026, have a capacity of 60 passengers. They are equipped with low floors for easier boarding, facilities for people with disabilities, air conditioning and other modern amenities to improve passengers’ comfort and travel experience.

500-day campaign brings fallen soldiers closer to home

Information provided by local residents in Son La province helped authorities find the remains of two fallen soldiers after four days of searching. At Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City, 701 sets of remains and 304 sets of personal items have been recovered, while in Ca Mau province, more than 3,000 unidentified graves have been excavated and biological samples collected.
