Nearly 44.5 million USD raised for Yagi-hit victims

As of 5pm on September 15, individuals and collectives at home and abroad have donated over nearly 44.5 million USD to support people in Vietnam, who were hit by Typhoon Yagi.

According to the Central Relief Committee under the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), on September 12-13, it conducted first-phase allocation to 20 localities hit by the storm, and the second allocation is scheduled to be implemented on September 16, based on the level of damage of localities.

The committee is continuing to update and publicly disclose the list of individuals and collectives, who have made donations, it said.

On September 15, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development received an aid package of 26 tons from Switzerland. The package includes equipment and systems relating to water distribution, and safe housing. Besides, experts from Switzerland will be sent to Yen Bai province this week.

On the same day, an Indian aircraft carrying 35 tons of aids to Vietnam landed on Noi Bai International Airport. The package includes water purifiers and tanks, kitchen kits, blankets, and others.

The New Zealand government, meanwhile, decided to provide 1 million NZD (over 617,000 USD), to support Vietnam, the New Zealand Embassy in Vietnam announced on September 16.

As of 5:30pm on September 15, Typhoon Yagi and following downpours, flooding, and landslides had left 292 dead and 38 missing. The Ministry of Planning and Investment estimated material losses caused by the typhoon at over 1.6 billion USD./.
